Man accused of attacking priest back in North Dakota

TOWNER, N.D. – Authorities have extradited a Minnesota man accused of attacking a priest in Anamoose, N.D. back to North Dakota, where he will make his initial appearance on the charges Thursday afternoon.
Forty-two-year-old Chad Legare is in custody at the Heart of America Correctional Center in Rugby, N.D.
Legare faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and burglary, stemming from an incident at St. Francis Xavier Church in Anamoose on Jan. 30.
The Diocese of Fargo had confirmed that Fr. Robert Wapenski was assaulted in the incident.
The incident prompted temporary lockdowns of an area school and medical center.
Authorities arrested Legare in Alexandria, Minn., without incident.
